VIOLENCE IS ITALIAN ART!

WYRD WAR concludes our 2019 autumn soundtrack concert series with a very special screening of Lucio Fulci’s gory supernatural masterpiece THE BEYOND (1981), featuring live score and post-film concert by celebrated Italian composer FABIO FRIZZI! Tickets on sale HERE! Catriona MacColl is Liza Merril, a young New Yorker who suddenly inherits a mysterious hotel in a remote Louisiana bayou. A series of inexplicable accidents begin to occur after her arrival as Liza is drawn into a malefic labyrinth of terror, assisted by a blind entity who admonishes that her inheritance has been built over one of the Seven Gates of Hell! Hailed as the quintessential Fulci film, THE BEYOND boasts a fragmented narrative that is propelled toward its haunting conclusion by unhinged nightmare logic, macabre atmospheres, stylish New Orleans locations, unflinching depictions of graphic violence and, of course, the iconic music of Fabio Frizzi! Longtime Fulci cinematographer Sergio Salvati is at his gleeful best, zooming and lurking over every bizarre atrocity in this phantasmagorical epic of Italian horror cinema. Find out why Lucio Fulci once infamously remarked, “Violence is Italian art!”

SANTA BLOODY SANTA.

Odessa Godoy, talented creator of the possessed rabbi doll featured in the HOLIDAY HELL installment titled 'The Hand That Rocks The Dreidel,' a fun reimagining of the Hebrew myth of the golem. Myth? Truth? Who knows?

The caption here sorta wrote itself.

ALL OUT OF BUBBLE GUM

Chewing bubble gum and kicking ass.

Alan Howarth at Wyrd War headquarters.
Your funeral, my trial.

Thanks to everyone who came out to our double sold out presentations of John Carpenter's THEY LIVE on 35mm featuring Academy Award winning composer and sound designer Alan Howarth! More than 700 resistance fighters put on their glasses and came out to support the WYRD WAR (no need to start eating that trashcan). Very special thanks to my friends at the Hollywood Theatre who were willing to work late so we could accommodate an 11:00pm encore performance and, of course, my dear friend Alan Howarth for taking us to inner-space...and back. Next up is Wyrd War's very special presentation of Lucio Fulci's definitive gore epic THE BEYOND with composer Fabio Frizzi performing his beautiful score live on stage at the Hollywood Theatre (plus concert after the film). WYRD WAR PRESENTS: THEY LIVE ON 35MM WITH SPECIAL GUEST ALAN HOWARTH

Thank you, Portland! Wyrd War's 7:30pm screening of John Carpenter's THEY LIVE on November 1, 2019 sold out in less than 24 hours. We added an encore 11pm show, and that sold out too. That is more than 700 white-knuckled resistance fighters willing to put on the glasses and get woke!

Academy award-winning composer/sound designer ALAN HOWARTH is our special guest for the evening. Howarth will perform a full concert after the film, featuring a medley of beloved soundtrack hits spanning his entire career, including ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK, BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA, CHRISTINE, PRINCE OF DARKNESS, the ongoing HALLOWEEN franchise and many more!

ABOUT THE PRINT: In 2017, a Universal Studios archivist discovered a random canister of film in the vault that appeared to have never been shipped out for public viewing. He soon realized this was a mislabeled “lost" print of THEY LIVE circa 1988! Since its discovery, this truly rare and pristine gem has only been projected twice...until now! Hope you got your tickets. See ya November 1.

IT WAS THE GREATEST EVIL OF ALL: DEEP RED!

Claudio and Bruno pointing out Dario Argento's accidental reflection in the window of this scene in Suspiria during soundcheck. I've seen Suspiria probably 20 times since the 80s and never noticed this before!

Meet & greet at the Wyrd War gallery.

Claudio signed my beautiful print of this Conquest poster art by the Ghanaian mobile cinema artist Leonardo.

Claudio had never seen this rare 1978 Dawn of the Dead board game by SPI Games that is part of our current exhibit at the Wyrd War gallery.

Scenes from the projection booth.

384 stabbing shards of glass can't be wrong.

I don't always act like an Italian opera queen, but when I do it's on stage with Claudio Simonetti! Thank you A.K. Wilson for capturing the spirit of the night in a single photo.

"If you had told 15 year old me that someday I'd be up here on stage introducing one of my absolute cinematic musical heroes...I probably would've been less cranky in high school!" Hey Portland! Thanks for showing up and giving me the night of my life last week! We sold out The Hollywood Theatre in less than 24 hours...back in July...for our screening of Dario Argento's DEEP RED (1975) featuring Claudio Simonetti's Goblin performing live! Special thanks to everyone who purchased meet & greet tickets and joined us at the Wyrd War gallery for a very intimate evening with the maestro and his band. It was an incredible experience for all involved and I can't thank Claudio enough for being the most humble and gracious musician I've ever had the pleasure of hosting! Next up in my autumn cinematic soundtrack concert series is John Carpenter's THEY LIVE (1988) featuring Academy award-winning composer Alan Howarth live in concert after the film! Our 7:30pm performance sold out in 24 hours, so we added an encore 11pm show! Get your tickets now

THE ENTITY...IS COMING!

Wyrd War proudly presents Charles Bernstein’s haunting score for Sidney Furie’s controversial supernatural thriller THE ENTITY (1982) for the first time ever on glorious vinyl! To celebrate this historical soundtrack release, we are bringing a rare 35mm print of THE ENTITY to The Hollywood Theatre for one night only on Saturday August 24, 2019! Tickets on sale now

Based on the novel of the same name, which in turn was based on the real-life case of a woman believed to be the victim of a violent spectral invasion, THE ENTITY is a provocative and genuinely unsettling descent into complex trauma and the demoralization that often emerges in the aftermath of rape. Barbara Hershey’s brilliant performance as a single mother seeking assistance from both a skeptical psychiatrist and a bumbling team of paranormal researchers is amplified by Bernstein’s iconic musical cues (more recently heard in Quentin Tarantino’s INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS). They simply do not make ghost movies like this anymore. If THE ENTITY does not reduce you to a pile of awestruck primal dread, you might want to call your therapist. We will have copies of the soundtrack available in the lobby before the film. This one is strictly limited to 666 numbered copies and is already nearly sold out in pre-sales, so if you wish to order ahead of time visit the online Wyrd War store.

Tales From The Summer Bummer.

The Doom That Came to Doomtown.

THANK YOU to everyone who joined us for our Wyrd War gallery launch meet & greet and Summer Bummer Double Feature with legendary writer, producer, actor, director Greydon Clark! We could've listened to his hilarious tales of low budget filmdom all night and, well...we did! Thanks to everyone at the Hollywood Theatre for making us feel right at home and thanks to our sponsor for this very special occasion, Blood Sweat Tears vodka from Eugene, Oregon. Very special thanks to Greydon Clark and his lovely partner Marlene for everything. We will return next year - deep in the heart of summer - to celebrate the craft of filmmaking with another surprise directorial guest. In the meantime, come see us at our new headquarters located at 3505 NE Broadway in beautiful Portland, Oregon where we have a rotating permanent display of Ghanaian movie poster paintings that is guaranteed to blow your mind.
