COME, COME, COME TO THE SABBAT!

WYRD WAR summons all witches to our fourth annual Walpurgisnacht celebration of the dark feminine in film! Powerful, possessed and persecuted, the cinematic representation of witchy women is always a kaleidoscopic journey through the looking glass of gender politics and psychosexual fantasy. This year Dennis Dread proudly presents emerging German filmmaker Lukas Feigelfeld’s HAGAZUSSA: A HEATHEN’S CURSE (2017), a slow-burning "gothic folktale" in the phantasmagoric neo-mythic tradition of Lars von Trier’s ANTICHRIST and Robert Eggers’ THE WITCH, seething with meditative ritual and glacial dread. High on the snow swept Alps of 15th century Austria, a mother dies of a mysterious illness, leaving her daughter Albrun to be raised as an outcast orphan by nearby superstitious villagers. Coming of age as an isolated single mother herself, Albrun hears the dark woods of the heath call her name as she slides inexorably toward her terrible and terrifying destiny. Beautifully imagined and crafted, HAGAZUSSA will be hauntingly transcendent on the very big screen at The Hollywood Theatre! This is one of very few select theatrical screenings taking place nationwide in April.
