TAKEN BY FORCE: BLACK DEATH RESURRECTED WEST COAST TOUR 2016

One of the first things Siki Spacek asked to do when he landed in the Northwest was visit the grave of his childhood guitar hero Jimi Hendrix.
He was rather enthusiastic about the visit.
Hendrix said to pass it on, and so Jeremy did.

Even Jimi's statue seems to realize these guys need showers...

Nice reunion with old friends in Christian Mistress.

Midnight commanded the stage before Cirith Ungol made their triumphant return...
When I met founding Cirith Ungol member Rob Garven, he took this pin right off his denim vest and placed it in my hand. This week the City of Ventura formally recognized the band at City Hall and October 10th will now and forever be recognized as Cirith Ungol Day!

The Magnificent Ventura Theater is actually pretty magnificent. Especially when Cirith Ungol is on stage performing their first concert since 1991.

Me and Tim "Johnny Fever" Baker, one of the greatest voices in heavy metal and one of the nicest guys I met in Ventura. This is exactly how metal should age.
A lot of skeptics didn't think Siki would ever find an audience beyond his rust belt hometown. The headbangers at Frost and Fire II proved otherwise.

Many were the non-believers who said Siki Spacek would never tour. They were probably the same mouth breathers who doubted that we could get him on a plane back in 2014 for his first performance west of Cleveland, Ohio. Regardless, this week we successfully took the West Coast by force with dates in Seattle, Portland, San Francisco and Ventura. San Francisco was the weak link in the chain, with our dullest turn out and tiniest stage (what the hell happened to the once mighty Bay Area metal scene??), however, the night was spectacularly salvaged by our new friends in Oakland's Mesmer, who set the night on fire with true heavy metal passion! Thanks also to Christian Mistress, High Spirits, Danava, Meercaz and the Visions, Ashbury, Grim Reaper and Acid Wash for sharing stages, gear and festival bills with Black Death Resurrected along the way. Also thanks to Jarvis Leatherby for all of his work organizing Frost and Fire II in Ventura, California. It was, without a doubt, the highlight of the tour. Twenty one gun salute to all who lent their energy in various ways to this adventure. Extra special thanks to my beautiful daughter Kallisti. The metal legions will never fully understand or appreciate how or why a 19 year old woman who admittedly cares little about loud music would sacrifice more than practically anyone else to make this mini tour a resounding success. But she did. Make no mistake, this week was the execution and triumph of our collective Will to Power. The Wyrd War will simply not be stopped. UNTIL WE ROCK!!!!

#BLACKDEATHMATTERS

It is time once again to welcome the legendary Siki Spacek and Black Death Resurrected to the West Coast! Next week I will be hitting the road with my Cleveland brothers to deliver swift metal justice to Seattle, Portland and San Francisco with Portland newcomers Acid Wash, before pushing onward to Frost and Fire II in Ventura, California to witness the triumphant return of Cirith Ungol! When I first brought Siki Spacek and crew to Portland in 2014, some of the local non-believers expressed their smug doubt as only smug non-believers can. Of course, it turned out to be one of the most memorable concerts of the last decade. And we're gonna do it again! In case you need a quick history lesson, you can read a conversation between Siki and myself here, from shortly before he blew minds and stole hearts at the 2014 East End Block Party. My beloved comrade A.K. Wilson made a killer video from that performance, in case you need any further motivation to get your ass off the couch and on the street. I hope to see some of you TRUE 'bangers up front and center very soon. It's what Cliff Burton would have wanted. UNTIL WE ROCK!

  • October 4 (Seattle) The Highline: with Acid Wash, High Spirits and Christian Mistress
  • October 5 (Portland) Dante's: with Acid Wash, Danava and DJ Dennis Dread
  • October 7 (San Francisco) Thee Parkside: with Acid Wash, Mesmer and Act of Defiance
  • October 9 (Ventura) Frost and Fire II: with Ashbury and Grim Reaper

Deströyer 666 IS the Antichrist

I have a few of these limited edition shirts available through Wyrd War. Officially commisioned by K.K. Warslut of the indomitable Deströyer 666 and limited to 50. Double-sided print on soft Next Level ringspun cotton that fit the way shirts are supposed to fit. Indicate size when you order. This is the first in a new line of "Artist Series" shirts featuring original artwork from some of my comrades around the world. I'm very pleased with how these turned out.

THE RETURN

CAN YOU DIG IT??

The Hollywood Theatre is showing some movie called The Warriors tonight. Sounds like it could be sorta interesting. Maybe I’ll go. I dunno...

Ok, let me be clear. The Warriors is one of the greatest films ever made. Period. I love this movie so much that when Penelope Spheeris suddenly asked me to name my favorite movie over dinner one time, my mind went blank and all I could do was swallow the rest of my beer and stammer, “The Warriors!” This sweaty mythological cartoon odyssey set against a grimy bygone New York City background is so tautly edited and brilliantly directed that it barely gives you a moment to exhale. In fact, the blitzkrieg pace of this film is so awesomely overwhelming that you almost don’t realize you’re watching a modern retelling of Homer’s epic poem (or Xenophon’s Anabasis, whatever, I don't read anyway). But that’s exactly what you’re watching. The Greek chorus is replaced with a lippy soul DJ who occasionally reminds us that there is sort of a plot and purpose to the chromatic cascade of violence, the formidable Ajax is played to the hilt by James Remar (Dexter’s dad!) who struts around drunk on his own testosterone and the sea hag Sirens are recast as a tough female clique called The Lizzies. Yes, this is the celluloid equivalent of a Frank Frazetta painting. Which is to say, it provides a visceral side effect most commonly experienced as a twitching in the groin and a clutching of the fists. The only bummer about The Warriors is that it is so goddamn good that when the lights come on and you stumble blinkingly back toward home you will be reminded how shitty the world has become. Where is brother Cleon and Swan when we need them? This film triggered a rash of subway crimes and theater violence when it was first released in 1979, and if anyone wants to fistfight in the theater tonight, just heckle the screen like an idiot or forget to silence your phone and I will gladly indulge your wishes. Can you count, suckas?? FTW.

THE BLACK MAGIC HORROR RITUAL RETURNS!
