August marks the one year anniversary of my monthly DJ gig LAST WEDNESDAY ON THE LEFT! For the past year I've been dutifully dragging records down to Portland's East End on the last Wednesday of every month and presiding over rituals of heavy vinyl worship. The event has slowly grown from an empty room to an alcoholic communion of potlatch proportions (in an empty room) and I'm celebrating this month with an appropriately self-destructive purging. Everyone who walks in the door on August 31 will receive one free ticket for the midnight raffle. Additional tickets can be purchased at the DJ booth for $2 and winners will be announced at midnight. Prizes include vintage vinyl, shirts, comics, art prints and an original Dennis Dread drawing! If you don't reside in Portland but wish to take a stab at owning an original work of art, you can purchase 2 tickets for $5 via PAYPAL to dennisdread@hotmail.com (4 tickets for $10, 6 tickets for $15, etc, etc...get it?). Your name will be written on your tickets and added to the midnight raffle cauldron. Out-of-town winners will be contacted on September 1 to coordinate shipping. If you have never come out to LAST WEDNESDAY ON THE LEFT, this is the perfect opportunity! I know, I know. Your boyfriend's band is playing the same night across town and it's a week night and you have to work the next morning. Guess what? We all have to work the next morning! Don't be a weak knight.
